11th Conference on Honduras

This conference has been going on for about a decade now in Copan Ruinas, which is next to the World Heritage Site of Copan. Representatives of non-profit and other organizations convene to discuss development strategies for Honduras. Check it out.

We are starting to see a slightly faster pace of registrations for the 11th annual Conference on Honduras (http://www.projecthonduras.com/conference) in Copan Ruinas. We now have 31 people confirmed to attend the conference on October 14-16, 2010. See http://www.projecthonduras.com/conference/confirmed.pdf … The registration fee for the 3-day event is $100 per person through the end of July. During August-October, the fee will be $150, so if you’re planning to attend I encourage you to register in the next five weeks.

Transportation between Roatan and Utila

This was not available when I last was in Honduras. In fact I have never been to Utila and I would love to check it out as soon as I can. But in general the Bay Island are great for snorkeling, scuba diving and hanging out on the beach. Each one has it’s own character and atmosphere.

Threats to Human Rights and Free Speech in Honduras

Honduras has had an interim government since president Zelaya has been ousted in June. The current government has been making efforts to silence anybody in support of president Zelaya, including journalists. Check out the link above. If you have time please write a letter to the interim government, to let them know that the world is watching.

I am currently fundraising for this great organization. Not an easy job, since it is getting dark early now and it is cold out there. Dreaming of a tropical vacation

Sitting in my kitchen, while the first winter storm passes through San Francisco. While the rain and winds slam again the window, I am nice and cozy, because my landlady keeps the house at a toasty 85 degrees. It feels tropical, but it’s not the whole package. I can’t help wishing I was in Honduras, in my own house lounging in a hammock. Check out our adobe. BTW it is for rent, should you have vacation time coming up, why not leave the cold behind and escape to the tropical beaches of Central America.
